I found that I was taking lots of images that didn't really fit any of the other pages, so I set up this one in November 2009. I felt that many of the pictures had an abstract quality to them and then I realised that I didn't really know what that meant.
The best definition of "Abstract" that I could find says that abstract compositions exist with a degree of independence from conventional visual references and that abstract art is a departure from accurate representation in the depiction of imagery. I think that means it may not be immediately obvious what the picture's meant to be. Whatever................hope you like the pictures.
On 4th December 2011 I decided to use this page for abstract and close-up images of man-made subjects and moved all of the ones that occur in nature to a new "Patterns of Nature" page.
